Resolved Question: Taking I-80 west through Chicago area?

Hi there, My boyfriend and I will soon be taking a road trip west from Cleveland, OH to Cheyenne, WY. We are planning on taking I-90/I-80, which will take us through some of the south suburbs of Chicago. We hear traffic will be pretty bad through these areas. We were thinking of mapping out an alternate route to avoid this traffic, but we are so completely unfamiliar with the area that we don't know which areas are even considered part of the Chicago suburbs.
